A few weeks ago I decided to test myself for food sensitivities. At first it was because Instagram kept showing me an ad for Everlywell testing (influenced much?) and then my decision was sealed when I remembered that I am still not feeling 100% optimal eating the foods I am currently eating. I have chronic back pain (hello inflammation) and despite eating very well, I still feel puffy and tired after eating some of my meals.
What is Everlywell Testing?
Everlywell food sensitivity testing is an at-home lab test that measures your body’s immune response to 96 foods to help guide you on what types of food to prioritize challenging in an elimination diet. It costs $159 US dollars (use my link for 15% off).
How does it work?
The lab sends you a kit with everything you need to perform the test at home. You get a little card that collects 5 droplets of blood, lancets to prick your fingers, and gauze and bandaids. It is super simple to do and the directions are clear. You send the kit back and in a few days your results are emailed to you.
My Results
I was incredibly disappointed to find out that I have a moderately large sensitivity to…. EGG WHITES and YOLKS. You guys, I eat them EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!!! But it was also good to have answers as to why I don’t feel all that great despite eating a healthy, whole foods (for the most part) diet. I was SHOCKED to find out that I have a milder yet still significant sensitivity to… CHICKEN!!! UGH!!!! I love chicken and eat it as my primary source of protein for lunches and dinners. But again, I am happy to have this information! Everlywell suggests taking the foods that you are highly or moderately sensitive to out of your diet for 4 weeks and then slowly reintroduce them one at a time, 3 days apart and see how your body reacts.
What Else am I Sensitive to?
The test showed that I have a mild sensitivity to pineapples and sunflower seeds. Kinda random because I never really eat these foods but I will continue to keep them out of my diet and see what happens.
Things I’ve Been Eating Since Getting My Results…
Since I am no longer eating eggs for breakfast, I have been having a protein shake with a bowl of oatmeal (my FAVE!). For lunch, I have been enjoying ground turkey or turkey breast, shrimp or other types of fish instead of chicken. Dinner has been turkey, beef or fish with loads of veggies. I have not felt deprived or miss eggs or chicken although it is still very early in the journey. I have to be careful with products that may contain eggs like mayo or certain baked goods.
