As mentioned in my last post, I started CrossFit at the end of March 2022. It has been really good for me physically but even more so, mentally. Feeling like I am strong and capable feels amazing. I also really love being a beginner at something and feeling like every day I get a little better at each of the many CrossFit skills. Do I get frustrated? Um, HECK YES! But knowing that I can make incremental strength gains and baby step improvements on skills reassures me that I am moving in the right direction.
CrossFit also makes me…. SORE. And at 46 with a back injury, I need to prioritize mobility and recovery so that I can perform my best both in the gym and outside. What also helps me to feel good going into the gym is good supportive shoes specific for cross training, and a great pair of supportive leggings. I pulled together my FAVORITE things that I cannot live without these days. Let’s go! (some links below may lead to affiliate links).

- Athleta Elation Tights – these are by far my favorite leggings everrrrrr. They are soft as butter, supportive and do not dig into my waist. 10 out of 10 recommend!
- Lifepro Massage Gun – This massage gun has been a lifesaver for super tight muscles. Recovery is so important so that you can get back into the gym for the next session and to just feel better overall!
- High Density Foam Roller – Do I curse when I use this? YES. Do I feel amazing afterwards? Also YES!
- Rogue Speed Jump Rope – Jumping rope, especially double unders (where the rope rotates under the body twice with each jump) are an important skill in CrossFit. I have really loved this rope for both how the handles feel in my hands and also the weight of the rope itself (it is really light yet rotates well). The length is totally adjustable too (great for us short gals!).
- Nobull Trainers – I love these shoes for many reasons (I mean, how freaking cute are they?) but I want to highlight a few features. The little dots all along the top of the shoe and the gumminess of the mid sole helps with rope climbs. The shoe is flatter than a typical say, running shoe so it is great for lifting weights. Plus, the colors are awesome and make me happy.
- Lacrosse Balls – Having a few lacrosse balls around your house (and in your car) can help you stay mobile and loose. I’ll post a few example videos below of ways that you can use these inexpensive tools. Tight spots can prevent you from getting into good movement patterns like squats and overhead pressing.
Are you a CrossFitter too!? I would LOVE to hear what YOU cannot live without for your workouts and beyond! Drop me a note in the comments and let me know!
